MUST COP: WALTZ WITH BASHIR DVD
Tuesday, December 15th, 2009Ok so I stumbled across this dvd in the “new arrival” section at blockbuster and copped it because the cover art looked ill. Indeed, the movie didn’t disappoint. The animation and use of the after-effects for this documentary style feature was groundbreaking. The actual content was dope also. The movie takes place in 2006 as a man, Ari Folman, is trying to make a connection between his nightmares and what he can remember happened when he was in The Lebanon War. He goes to gather and make sense of his memories by meeting up with his friend (a psychologist) and his old war buddies he served with in the Israeli Defense Force. As they speak on their memories the movie goes back to 1982 during the war. The freshest part of the story telling in the movie is when it reinacts the dream sequences. Very abstract. And if you’re into creating animation and after-effect like I am there is a special feature in the dvd where they break down for you specifically how certain scenes where put together. Dope…most definitely a must have.
